In association with SCCT, the aim of the project is to bring people together no matter how long they've played an instrument; its all about having fun and meeting new people, playing concerts and helping raising money for charities

About us

In April 2019 Sutton Coldfield Wind Orchestra (SCWO) was established.

Hi, I’m Caroline. Since leaving school I was unable to play in the Birmingham schools ensembles and struggled to find a band that was within 20 miles of Sutton Coldfield. I did play in a few for a couple of years then since having children it got harder to commit.

I had been hoping to start up my own band for years and the music world is a small place with everyone known to each other.

I finally got the courage to give it a go in 2018 and contacted my local church. Using facebook for advertising and marketing and google forms and applied for a grant from sutton coldfield charitable trust.

Come and Join us

We have a great team of people of all abilities and support each other when playing music.

Before covid we had a max of about 8 players. Since returning in May 2021 we have now doubled that and have a full band. I cant stop smiling and am so proud of the orchestra.

We rehearse every week, having a week break, bank holidays and two weeks at christmas.

We don't have a minimum standard but ideally be able to read music and have played for at least 2 years. We do ask that players are over 16 unless accompanied by an adult who is also playing in the orchestra.

Be part of Sutton Coldfield Wind Orchestra

Come and try our Orchestra before committing. Play for 2 weeks to see if it's for you, then we ask for you to pay a minimal subs amount for the cost of rent to rehearse public liability insurance and membership with making music also being able to purchase new music as being a new ensemble we need to build up a library.

Our rehearsal venue is at Four Oaks Methodist Church,  parking can get tricky so parking out on the road is recommended as there are groups on before us.

We do have a 10 minute break so please bring a flask of tea or water and also a music stand.

At the moment any instrument is welcome as we are still buliding up players. so welcome all woodwind and brass players.
