Our History
Sutton Coldfield Wind Orchestra was founded in 2019 by a group of friendly local musicians who wanted to create a wind band for the Sutton Coldfield community. The idea was simple: bring together people who enjoy playing music, create a welcoming environment, and put on some great concerts along the way.
Since then, we’ve performed in churches, community spaces and at events across the local area, building up a growing group of players and supporters. Like many musical organisations, Covid brought things to a halt, but we were determined to get the orchestra going again. Following our relaunch, the band has gone from strength to strength, welcoming new players and continuing to expand both our repertoire and our programme of concerts.
A big part of what we do is supporting good causes. Each year we hold charity concerts, raising money for a range of different charities and causes. Between them, these concerts have raised thousands of pounds – something we’re particularly proud of. It’s a great feeling to know that an evening spent doing something we love can also make a difference to other people.
Today, we remain true to the spirit in which the orchestra was founded: a group of local musicians who enjoy making music together and want others to be part of it too. We’re always happy to welcome new players, whether you’re an experienced musician or someone returning to their instrument after a few years away.
